How to add text to a photo

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP photo, or drop or paste it onto the page.
  2. Type your text, then pick a font, size, color and effects. Drag it into place, and add as many text layers as you need.
  3. Choose PNG or JPEG and download the image at its original size.

Make text easy to read

On busy photos, add an outline or a shadow, or put the text on a background color. White text with a dark outline works on most images. Fonts come from your device, so the same text can look slightly different on another computer or phone.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Your photo is opened, edited and saved inside your browser. It isn't sent to our servers or processed by AI, and you don't need an account or credits.

Which images can I use?

PNG, JPEG or WebP files up to 20 MB, at most 10,000 pixels on either side and 24 megapixels in total. SVG files and links to online images aren't supported — save the image to your device first.

Does the download keep the original size?

Yes. The downloaded image has the same width and height in pixels as the photo you opened, with the text in the same place as in the preview.

Should I download PNG or JPEG?

PNG keeps transparent areas transparent and uses lossless compression. JPEG makes a smaller file, but transparent areas are filled with white and compression can slightly soften details.

Does saving change the rest of my photo?

The photo is redrawn under your text and saved as a new file, so it isn't an exact copy of the original file. Camera details such as location and date aren't kept, your browser may convert colors to standard sRGB, and JPEG compression slightly changes pixels across the whole image. Outlines, shadows and backgrounds also cover a little area around the letters.

How do I move and resize text precisely?

Drag text with your mouse or finger, and drag the round handle at its corner to resize it. For fine control, select the text on the photo and use the arrow keys (hold Shift for bigger steps), or use the center buttons. Press Enter to edit the text and Delete to remove it. Undo with Ctrl/⌘ + Z and redo with Shift + Ctrl/⌘ + Z.

Can I switch to another photo without losing my text?

Yes. Replace photo keeps every text layer and scales it to the new photo's size. If the new file can't be opened, your current photo and text stay as they were.
